Baxter (population – 1,365) is located in the western end of Putnam County (population – 72,321). We are seven miles west of the county seat of Cookeville. Our location in the state of Tennessee is ideal. We have the best of all situations because we are a small tight knit community with great access to major cities and their resources. From our downtown area, we are one mile from the major east-west Interstate 40, one mile from Historical State Highway 70, and one-half mile from Historical State Highway 56. We can travel approximately seventy-two miles to Nashville or a little over one hundred miles to Knoxville. In between the metropolitan areas are many wonderful things to do and to see.
Baxter has not been left behind in this technology age. Our local telephone cooperative, Twin Lakes Telephone, has been very progressive in the area of technology. Broadband/internet is offered to all its customers. Charter Communications in Cookeville offers broadband/internet to those in the Baxter area.
